BIOC

Me, Ben and Nanret were all tied up because it was only 10 minutes left to complete the Biochem answer booklet we had in hands. Being my usual
gelabah self, I got all panicky and started to scribble my way the entire sheet. I then broke the silence with, "Nanret, do you have a liquid paper that I can borrow?".
OK, if I wasn't panic, I'd pull my fake Canadian self and said white-out instead. Both Nanret and Ben were a lil bit confused and Nanret asked, "What's a liquid paper?". I immediately noticed the slip-off and told her that I actually wanted a white-out. They both laughed.

They thought liquid paper was a genius term. And they also thought I was a cute Asian.

And I thought that moment worth a post.

lol..it happened once to me too, except I was not panic or by any chance nervous at the time. I asked one girl for a liquid paper since I saw she had one in her pencil case. she was like, liquid paper?what do you mean by that?I didn't have any clue at all that they call it white out and not liquid paper!haha. same thing happened when I wanted to borrow a "salotape". *blush* hehe

    LOL COMEL.

More Malaysianisms that I have myself stumbled into:

i.) handphone (hantu celaka mane ah invent term nih...bangang nak mampus. Macamlah telephone rumah tak pegang pakai tangan)

ii.) rubber (try this on Mat Sallehs. Muka diaorang akan cam "WTF?!")

iii.) other words like "lorry" and "queue" are English, but are rarely used in North America (they are replaced with "truck" and "line").

iv.) salotape (supposed to be cellophane tape)

    And my all time-favourite:

v.) PHOTOSTAT. Kalau aku jumpa jembalang yang popularize term nih sumpah aku pukul dia. It doesn't even make sense - "photo" + "stat" (as in the medical term) = photo immediately? o.O
